We’ve been following the story of IFC Midnight’s box office takeover in recent weeks, the result of the distribution company releasing brand new movies into drive-in theaters at a time when standard brick-and-mortar movie theaters are non-operational due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the top of those charts? Their creature feature, The Wretched.
Brett and Drew Pierce’s The Wretched (read Meagan’s review) has now been released into 21 drive-in locations across the United States, and it’s been at the top of the box office charts for three weeks straight. This past weekend saw the film making $32,243 on Friday and $38,774 on Saturday, the latter number being the movie’s highest single-day number to date.
At the time of writing this article, The Wretched is 18 days into its drive-in run and the movie has scared up $316,557 at the box office, over $90,000 of which was made this past weekend alone. With more theaters being added as more drive-ins open up across the country, The Wretched‘s surprising reign over the box office is likely to continue for many weeks.
How much will the film pull in at the box office when all is said and done? Could it reach that million dollar milestone? We’ll continue tracking this story and keep you posted.
