Batla House Movie Review: A Taut And Interesting Watch

John Abraham’s last few releases had a strong patriotic flavour and his Independence Day offering Batla House too is a tribute to honest police officers.
The film is inspired by the Batla House Encounter that took place in 2008. ACP Sanjay Kumar and his team discover that a few agents of Indian Mujahideen are posing as students and living in New Delhi. He reaches there with his team but a police officer and a few boys die in the cross-firing. However, media and a section of the society claims that the encounter was fake and the students were innocent. How the cops prove their innocence forms the rest of the plot.
John has played the role of ACP Sanjay Kumar, a no-nonsense and decorated police officer. John has given a very restrained performance and is superb in his role. Mrunal Thakur has played his wife and as always has acted well. Their jodi too is quite refreshing. Rajesh Sharma has played a lawyer but more than his acting, it’s his weird wig which catches your attention. The film also features Nora Fatehi and she has not only danced to Saki Saki but has also played a key role. Her role is small but she manages to make an impression.
It’s a taut and engaging thriller. It talks about the difficulties faced by our police force and how even our tough officers crumble under pressure and John has done full justice to the script and his character. The plot is interesting, the screenplay is crisp and the narrative is beautiful. There wasn’t one moment where I got bored and for this I would like to give credit to Nikkhil Advani. He has extracted great performances from his artistes and has made a balanced movie. John is the soul of this film and while in some scenes he has played to the galleries, overall I am mighty impressed with his performance. Locations are good, cinematography is nice and the background score is thrilling. Overall it’s a complete masala entertainer, which you can enjoy with your family.
