Arjun Patiala Movie Review: Underwhelming Parody

Spoofs are not common in India and thus, Rohit Jugraj’s Kriti Sanon-Diljit Dosanjh starrer Arjun Patiala comes like a breath of fresh air however, treh same cannot be said about its plot and execution.

The film is a spoof on Bollywood and you see a movie inside this movie. Pankaj Tripathi, a producer, is listening to the script of a film, whose hero is a cop named Arjun Patiala, hero’s friend is Onnida and hero’s heroine is Ritu Randhawa, a journalist. There are several other characters in this movie and as the film progresses you lose count.

Both, Kriti and Diljit have acted well. Their jodi looks fresh and their chemistry too is sweet. Varun Sharma has played Onnida and he has acted the same, like he acts in all his films. Arjun Patiala also features Ronit Roy, Seema Pahwa and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub in key roles and though they are fantastic actors, the weak script restricts them. Why an actor of Pankaj Tripathi’s caliber is in this movie, is beyond anyone’s comprehension.

Spoofs are tricky and while Jugraj has tried, a good parody isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. It gives you some laughs but it’s too childish. Why the heroine was so concerned about the villains and why she didn’t do anything about it, these are some of the few questions the audiences leave the theater with.Everyone is doing everything according to their own whims and fancies in this movie.

For a parody, this movie is too long. Had this film been edited by half an hour more, it would have become more engaging. A crisper screenplay would have made it better. There are just too many songs in the film and not only do they bore you but they also stretch the movie. Songs se yaad aya, film mein Sunny Leone bhi hai.

Arjun Patiala is okay, at least it’s not a pretentious film. As spoofs are not common in India, the Indian audience will take some time to warm up to the idea. Cinematography is not up to the mark. Some dialogues are funny but the screenplay and script could have been better.

Arjun Patiala is strictly a one-time watch.
