Coming from filmmaker Sanjay Gupta, it was pretty much expected that the film would have a style quotient, well, a whole lot of it. Add to that the unique persona of Irrfan and you know that there is something exciting that would be dished out. “Sanjay Gupta knows how to present his men,” comments an observer, “Right from Sanjay Dutt in Aatish to John Abraham in Shootout at Wadala, men have led from the front in his films. Both of these actors played gangsters in their respective films and now that Irrfan is a cop in Jazbaa, there is a unique identity that Sanjay Gupta has given to the actor.” No wonder, even as Irrfan wonders if he takes an Amitabh Bachchan or Singham route in the narrative (as hinted in the promo), Sanjay Gupta knows how he wishes to present him in his ‘two hero’ film, the other being Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. “If Aishwarya is shown as all fiery, Irrfan is the cool one with a calculative mindset. Of course since this is a Sanjay Gupta affair, an inherent flamboyance quotient is certainly high,” the observer adds. This is something reflected in not just the cool costumes that Irrfan is made to wear (a signature jacket being the standout affair), but also the walk and a characteristic dialogue delivery which is making the actor stand out. “This is for the first time that Sanjay Gupta and Irrfan are working together. They started work on Alibaug but the film was not completed. Now that they are back in Jazbaa, their coming together had to count. For Irrfan, who is now making waves internationally, the film is one of his biggest commercial films in Bollywood. On the other hand Sanjay Gupta has a new macho hero in Irrfan, after making films with other notable names. Yes, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s character is the one that gets the plotline rolling. However, Irrfan is someone who is more than just a steady companion in the drama,” a unit member adds.
