Kylie Jenner–Leo Sun, Scorpio Moon, billionaire rising–celebrated her 27th birthday this month with a Vogue cover, an afternoon tea service (she’s a Coronation Chicken convert), and a Bahamas escape featuring Stas, Sprinter, superyachts and Timothée Chalamet (who, to my colleague’s relief, appears to have jettisoned pageboy caps now that The Complete Unknown has officially wrapped). This being hurricane season in the Atlantic, the cosmos delivered on the conspicuous content front, with Kylie posing in front of a storm that Glen Powell’s Tyler Owens would take as a personal challenge, complete with dramatic forked lightning illuminating the Caribbean waves. So how does one upstage a backdrop straight out of Marvel’s Thor? If you’re Jenner, you turn to Acne Studios – specifically this asymmetric midi-skirt, which features a pin-buckle belt that rests above the waist à la Carrie Bradshaw at her most chaotic.

These days Kylie is a front-row staple in Paris, expected at Couture Week in cinched Jean Paul Gaultier corsets and whispery tulle designs, Schiaparelli “taxidermy” and glittering keyhole gowns. It’s Acne, though, that served as something of a gateway fashion drug for Jenner, who decamped to the Palais de Tokyo for the Swedish brand’s spring/summer 2023 show in a caped dress that Vogue described as “Batgirl at a Studio 54 party” back in 2022. By the following season, Kylie had been cast as the face of founder Jonny Johansson’s XXL jeans, with photographer Carlijn Jacobs shooting the accompanying campaign. The end result: imagery that had shades of “nothing-comes-between-me-and-my-Calvins” to it, only grittier, sweatier and with Jenner pictured in duplicate – promptly going viral. Kylie: Mother of storms, Stormi and social media clout.
