Former beauty queen and actress Sushmita Sen has been grabbing the headlines ever since the first look for her as transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant was released from her upcoming show Taali. Fans all praised for an actress for playing the role of a trans activist. The beauty queen recently dropped the teaser of the show. The trailer shows Shreegauri Sawant’s undying quest for the recognition of the third gender in India. In the trailer, Sushmita adjusted her bindi and saree in a mirror with a photo of queer icon and singer Usha Uthup in the background. There are also glimpses of Sushmita dressed in men’s clothing, presumably depicting Shreegauri Sawant’s life story.

Speaking about the common bonding factor between Sushmita and Shreegauri, the makers revealed, “Imagine having to petition to be recognised as a gender. Shreegauri Sawant’s story will reveal how many odds citizens like her have to face.” “She is a huge inspiration as a human being who not only triumphed over societal challenges but also adopted the daughter of a deceased AIDS patient. Both Sushmita and Shreegauri Sawant are adoptive mothers, and bonded closely over this common factor,” they shared. Taali is directed by filmmaker Ravi Jadhav, and the script is written by Kshitij Patwardhan. It is produced by Arjun Singgh Baran, Kartk D Nishandar and Afeefa Nadiadwala. The series will premiere on August 15, on Jio Cinema.
