Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Has Already Crushed a Major Movie Record

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 premiered a new spot during the Super Bowl and it is now being declared the most-watched trailer during the big game. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was one of several films to release trailers during this year’s Super Bowl LVII, but it was the Marvel Cinematic Universe release that came out on top as the most-watched spot during the big game.

Per Deadline, the trailer for the third installment of the Guardians franchise pulled in 134.1 million views across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. The numbers were tallied by the social media analytics corporation RelishMix, which also revealed that this is the first time since before the pandemic that a Super Bowl trailer has topped 100 million views on social media in a 24-hour period. The spot is also the most-watched Super Bowl movie trailer in post-game day traffic. For comparison, the last movie trailer to top 100 million views in 24 hours after the game was the Fast 9 spot which premiered during the 2020 Super Bowl. The film held a lavish Miami concert to promote the first look, which helped drive the Super Bowl spot to 110.9 million views following its debut. As for last year’s game, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had the most trailer views 24 hours after the Super Bowl at 93.1 million.

Other tentpole releases also made a splash during the game. Trailers for The Flash and Fast X also debuted, ranking as the third and fourth most-watched Super Bowl trailers in the first 24 hours with 97.4 million and 94.1 million views, respectively. In total, the major studios released 13 trailers during the Super Bowl and forked over a hefty penny to do so. Ads during the game, which saw the Kansas City Chiefs defeat the Philadelphia Eagles, went for $7 million for a 30-second spot.
