Writing With Fire’s Oscars 2022 nomination is a victory for India. Why it should win Academy Award

Indian documentary Writing With Fire, directed by Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh, earned a nomination at Oscars 2022. This is a huge achievement for India and we are rooting for the documentary to win. In February, the list of Oscars 2022 nominations was unveiled. While major movies like The Power of the Dog, Belfast and The West Side Story dominated the list, India celebrated Writing With Fire’s nomination in the Best Documentary category. Directed by Sushmit Ghosh and Rintu Thomas, it chronicles the incredible journey of Khabar Lahariya – India’s first news channel led by Dalit women journalists, as they rise to the challenges with smartphones as their weapon. Whether Writing With Fire will win an Academy Award or not remains to be seen, but it surely has made India proud.
