Check out cover star Ananya Birla’s exclusive music video for Vogue India What’s your Reaction? +1 0 +1 0 +1 0 +1 0 +1 0 Facebook Twitter Email “I’ve always wanted to be a singer,” says our April cover girl Ananya Birla, “I love being on stage or in front of camera.” She’s flown to New York for Vogue India, to shoot a music video with the talented Alexi Lubomirski, picking one of her favourite singles ‘Unstoppable’ dedicated to her philanthropic mother. “She is my rock, she truly inspires me every day. She’s my definition of unstoppable.” Birla shot the original video in 2019 by inviting a string of trailblazing women to come on screen with her, including actor Juhi Chawla, boxer Mary Kom and tennis queen Sania Mirza. Today’s remake takes a different stylistic approach, highlighting the star’s softer side. “It’s raw, honest and vulnerable,” she says, “this is more personal.” Lubomirski captures her through his eyes: “Ananya told me that the song was written about her mother and about being strong and empowered, so we wanted to give it that energy,” he explains. “I didn’t want any colours to distract from Ananya and her song. Black and white made it much more powerful and artistic,” he says from behind the lens. “Unstoppable means we can do anything we set our minds to, no matter what life throws at us,” says Birla. Staying true to her words, and following her mother’s footsteps, the 26-year-old pop star juggles many roles with determination: musician, entrepreneur, mental health advocate and founder of the Ananya Birla Foundation. This song is a reminder for Birla that: “If you work hard and persevere, nothing can stop you.” And it’s only onwards and upwards from here.
