This is the best time for filmmakers, actor and actresses in Indian cinema. Bollywood has never seen a better time when it comes to films that have strong female leads. From Taapsee Pannu’s Thappad and Deepika Padukone’s Chhapaak to Kangana Ranaut’s Panga and Alia Bhatt’s Raazi, great roles are being written for actresses. The industry is trying to break stereotypes around the kind of roles offered to actresses, major credit should be given to the leading ladies who are taking the leash in their own hands.
But a look at Shraddha Kapoor’s filmography suggests there’s still a long way to go for Bollywood to start treating actresses more than just eye candies.
Baaghi 3 just hit the screens and we can’t fathom the fanfare for it. The film stars Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead and has crossed the coveted Rs 50-crore mark in just three days of its release.
The film is high on action, a Tiger Shroff trademark. But what is Shraddha Kapoor doing in this 2-hour-26-minute action saga? She is looking pretty in the songs. Indeed. But what else? About her performance, IndiaToday.in’s Nairita Mukherjee wrote, “There’s bad acting, and then there is over-acting. Shraddha’s was bad over-acting. Go figure.”
Many claim that Shraddha Kapoor is no more than just eye candy in her films. In this week’s Monday Masala, we find out where are these claims coming from.
