With tracking suggesting an over/under $65 million debut weekend and reviews squarely in the “yeah, it’s pretty much what you wanted” safe zone, Universal is hoping that Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw can be the exception to the rule this summer, if not this year. Walt Disney has utterly dominated the domestic and global box office this year, amassing (including Fox and Fox Searchlight movies) around $8 billion worldwide to best its own annual record of $7.6 billion back in 2016. And it’s only August 1.
If Eid has become synonymous with Salman Khan release, Independence Day has Akshay Kumar written all over it. For the last four years, Akshay Kumar has been releasing his films on the big day, and 2019 was no different. Mission Mangal, which has him in the role of ISRO scientist, hit the screens on August 15. And like all his previous Independence Day releases, Mission Mangal has got a bumper opening.
Each year, Akshay Kumar fans wait with bated breath for their favourite actor’s film. And this year, he has returned to the big screen with another inspirational story. Mission Mangal, which is based on India’s Mangalyaan or Mars Orbiter Mission, has struck the right chord with audience.
Mission Mangal has made Rs 29.16 crore on its opening day, thus becoming Akshay Kumar’s biggest opener so far. Released in around 3000 screens across India, Mission Mangal has managed to get a fabulous opening.
