Abhishek Chaubey’s Sonchiriya hits the theatres tomorrow. It is a film based on the dacoits of Chambal who were a terror in the 1970s. The film stars Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar, Ashutosh Rana and Manoj Bajpayee in lead roles. Without wasting much time, the first half introduces us to Sardar Maan Singh and his gang which is dealing with financial issues and cops. His favourite lieutenant Lakhna (Sushant Singh Rajput) is confused about what is the Dharma of a Baaghi (rebel), a question which even his mentor does not have.

The gang plans a robbery but it goes awry with them losing 15 members. Friction develops between Lakhna and Vakil Singh (Ranvir Shorey) with the arrival of Indumati (Bhumi Pednekar). The film highlights the caste system, which is the foundation of oppression in many areas. The action sequences are brilliantly shot and some of the dialogues are too good. Sushant Singh Rajput and Manoj Bajpayee steal the show in the first half.

With Lakhna trying to get redemption by saving Indumati’s sister, let us see how the second half unfolds…
