There have been a few movies that have been shot in Chambal. Every movie has tried to adapt to the infamous location in its own way. Sonchiriya is no different. The Bhumi Pednekar and Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer will bring a slice of Chambal to the theatres this weekend and going by Bhumi’s statement, we think we will see the portrayal of Chambal like never-before. The actors recently sat down for a candid conversation with BollywoodLife and spoke about filming in the notorious valley.

During the chat, Bhumi revealed that Chambal is not just the location of the movie, it is like a character in the movie. “I remember the first time Chaubey Sir had narrated the script to me and I had come on board, he told me categorically that this is not a regular film. Yes, we will do prep. But you really have to mentally and emotionally condition yourself to go through this experience,” explained Bhumi.

She goes on to say that she learnt the language, dialect and everything needed to prepare for this role. But it was not until the cast and crew reached Chambal that she understood Chaubey’s brief and realised that Chambal is not just a town, it is character. Check her explanation here:

The dacoit drama watches the two talented stars come together for the first. That’s not all. The Abhishek Chaubey directorial also pulls the two stars out of their comfort and in the lap of the Chambal valley for the first time. As seen in the trailer, the two stars don a rustic, raw look which we’ve never seen before. Sonchiriya releases on March 1.
