Will Smith is reaching out to the cosmos for answers, and social-media users are right there with him.
The trailer for Smith’s first post-”Suicide Squad” film, “Collateral Beauty,” was the most-engaged new film preview last week on Twitter, according to data analytics firm ListenFirst Media.
Smith plays Howard Inlet, an ad man in New York who writes letters to death, time and love after his child dies. In the manner of “It’s a Wonderful Life” or “A Christmas Carol,” the three concepts materialize in the form of Helen Mirren, Jacob Latimore and Keira Knightley, respectively. The inspirational drama is expected to hit theaters in December, just in time for the holiday season.
In a close second came the trailer for “Underworld: Blood Wars,” the fifth entry in the 13-year-old action-horror franchise about an ancient tiff between vampires and werewolves. Kate Beckinsale returns once again to the lead role of Selene. The film is due in January.
The trailer for Ben Affleck’s Prohibition-era gangster thriller “Live by Night,” expected in January, came in third for the week, while the trailer for Affleck’s “Dazed and Confused” co-star Matthew McConaughey‘s thriller “Gold,” a December release, landed in fourth.
A new trailer for horror flick “Ouija: Origin of Evil” rounded out the top five. It opens in October.
