In the first acting award for the night, Alicia Vikander has won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Gerda Wegener in The Danish Girl. Vikander beat out Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Rooney Mara (Carol), Rachel McAdams (Spotlight), and previous Academy Award winner Kate Winslet (Steve Jobs).

Though Vikander was presumed by many to win, there was also some predictions that Winslet would take home the award for her role as Apple marketing executive Joanna Hoffman. In total, The Danish Girl is nominated for four awards tonight, including Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, and Best Actor for Eddie Redmayne.
