Leonardo DiCaprio won Best Actor at the 2016 Oscars on Sunday. Watch below!

DiCaprio scored his first-ever Academy Awards win for his role as Hugh Glass in The Revenant, which received the most Oscars nominations this year. The actor was previously nominated for Best Supporting Actor for What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1993) and for Best Actor for The Aviator (2005), Blood Diamond (2007), and The Wolf Of Wall Street (2014). He also received a producer nomination for The Wolf Of Wall Street‘s Best Picture nod.

Widely considered one of the best actors of his generation, his years-long Oscars losing streak and his incredible performance in The Revenant made him the odds-on favorite to finally win this year with his sixth nomination. Many have argued it’s simply DiCaprio’s “time,” while others have pointed to his strong acting with minimal dialogue in harsh conditions. Whatever the reason, DiCaprio more than earned Hollywood’s top acting prize, and he received a rousing standing ovation when his name was announced.

Taking the stage for his acceptance speech, DiCaprio said, “Thank you all so very much. Thank you to the Academy. Thank to all of you in this room. I have to congratulate the other nominees.” The actor went on to thank his co-star Tom Hardy and director Alejandro Innaritu. He then expressed gratitude for his team, all those who aided his career, and his parents.

DiCaprio concluded by concluded by saying, “Climate change is real. It is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat affecting our entire species.” He urged, “We need to support leaders around the world… who speak for all of humanity,” and not those focused on greed. “I thank you all for this amazing award tonight. Let us not take this planet for granted. I do not take this award for granted,” DiCaprio said, receiving another ovation.

In the lead-up to tonight’s long-awaited victory, DiCaprio took home the equivalent honors at the Critics’ Choice Awards, Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and the BAFTAs. Check out the full video of his Oscars acceptance speech below!
