After celebrating 20 years in the industry this year, the designer opens doors to his first-ever flagship jewellery store. He talks to Vogue about reinventing himself to create a new business.
He started off as a jeweller before he got into clothing and funded his first line with the money he made selling costume jewellery out of a tiffin box to street vendors in Calcutta. Two decades later in the industry, Sabyasachi Mukherjee has come full circle with his jewellery brand. On wish lists of Indian brides all around the world and as the country’s most sought-after couturier, Mukherjee still feels challenged. As he launches his first stand alone jewellery boutique in Mumbai, he lets us in on why he feels young again with his now two-year-old business.
