\"\"Sony\u2019s \u201cHotel Transylvania 2\u201d is outpacing its box office competition, the studio\u2019s conservative projections for the sequel and the original film\u2019s opening weekend numbers \u2014 the animated sequel looks poised to rake in upwards of $46 million in its first weekend.<\/p>\n

Featuring the voice talents of Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James and Keegan-Michael Key, \u201cHotel Transylvania 2\u201d bowed Friday in 3,754 locations and generated $13 million in first-day receipts. The original \u201cHotel Transylvania\u201d opened to $42 million in 2012 on its way to a domestic haul of $148 million.<\/p>\n

The big weekend for \u201cHotel\u201d will set a new record for a September opening, as well as a new record for Sony Pictures Animation\u2019s best opening ever.<\/p>\n

Earning about half the Friday haul as \u201cTransylvania\u201d was Nancy Meyers\u2019 \u201cThe Intern,\u201d which nabbed $6 million from 3,305 locations. Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro star in this Warner Bros. comedy aimed at older viewers,\n<\/p><\/div>\n
