Amy Winehouse is gone, but not forgotten. The legendary Back to Black artist, who died at age 27 in 2011 from alcohol poisoning, lives on through her music, as well as the upcoming documentary, \u201cAmy.\u201d<\/p>\nA24 has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to \u201cAmy,\u201d directed by Asif Kapadia and produced by James Gay-Rees, about Amy Winehouse\u2019s early years, her immediate interest in music, and her rise to stardom \u2014 a rise that did not seem to agree with her, based on what she says in this haunting new trailer:<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019m going to be at all famous,\u201d we hear Winehouse say, over a montage of images of Amy contrasted with the flashing lights of fame. \u201cI don\u2019t think I could handle it. I would probably go mad, do you know what I mean? I would go mad.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a statement on the film\u2019s official Facebook page, Gay-Rees and Kapadia describe of \u201cAmy\u201d: \u201cThis is an incredibly modern, emotional and relevant film that has the power to capture the zeitgeist and shine a light on the world we live in, in a way that very few films can.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAmy was a once-in-a-generation talent who captured everyone\u2019s attention; she wrote and sung from the heart and everyone fell under her spell,\u201d their statement continues. \u201cBut tragically Amy seemed to fall apart under the relentless media attention, her troubled relationships, her global success and her precarious lifestyle. As a society we celebrated her huge success but then we were quick to judge her failings when it suited us.\u201d<\/p>\n
No specific release date has been announced for the U.S., but expect to see the arrival of \u201cAmy\u201d some time this summer.\n<\/p><\/div>\n
