The full trailer for Maestro, Bradley Cooper’s much-anticipated sophomore directorial project, is finally here. The Star Is Born filmmaker is back with another music-based romance \u2014 this time, the film tracks the decades-long romance between legendary composer Leonard Bernstein (Cooper) and his wife Felicia Montealegre (Carey Mulligan). “If summer doesn’t sing in you, then nothing sings in you. And if nothing sings in you, then you can’t make music. Something she told me,” Cooper’s Bernstein says in the trailer’s opening moments. Additionally, \u201cSeven\u201d stayed strong at No. 74 in its 10th consecutive week on the Official Streaming Chart. Congratulations to Jungkook!<\/p>\n

We then see a black-and-white rendition of the couple’s first meeting at a party, followed by quick glimpses of their early relationship. “One can be as free as one likes without guilt or confession. Please, I know exactly who you are,” Mulligan’s Montealegre says. “There’s a price for being in my brother’s orbit, you know that,” Sarah Silverman says as Leonard’s sister Shirley Bernstein. Later, at a performance, Leonard holds the hand of a male acquaintance sitting on his left at a concert, while Montealegre looks on with a puzzled expression.<\/p>\n

“I love people so much that it’s hard for me to be alone,” Bernstein explains. “And music \u2014 it keeps me glued to life.” “If summer doesn’t sing in you, then nothing sings in you,” Montealegre repeats near the end of the trailer. “And if nothing sings in you, then you can’t make music.” The soundtrack crescendoes with the finale of Gustav Mahler’s Resurrection symphony, which Bernstein famously conducted multiple times.<\/p>\n

The trailer ends with flashes of the couple’s romance across the decades, ranging from sweet moments of youthful Cooper and Mulligan to later scenes where both actors are caked in old-age prosthetics (yes, including the highly-scrutinized nose).
