Check out the first Ms. Marvel trailer! Ms. Marvel \u2013 aka Kamala Khan \u2013 is a Pakistani-American teenager with shapeshifting ability thanks to her Inhuman genes. Kamala took up the mantle from Carol Danvers when she became Captain Marvel in 2013. It flew off the shelves and has become a fan favorite. The first volume of the comic won a Hugo award for Best Graphic Story in 2015 and it has won several awards since.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Marvel looks like a great mix of coming-of-age tale and superhero story \u2013 with a unique perspective. I\u2019m loving the daydream sequences, comic book dialog bubbles, and drawn elements. The style reminds me a bit of Into the Spider-Verse and Scott Pilgrim.<\/p>\n<p>There have been a few changes to her powers \u2013 it looks like she\u2019ll be able to project large shapes instead of stretching like Mr. Fantastic. I\u2019m betting the change was made for better TV visuals and to bring her closer to Captain Marvel\u2019s power set. It\u2019ll be interesting to see where her powers come from. She\u2019s Inhuman in the books, but the MCU seems to be shying away from the concept in general.<\/p>\n<p>Kamala is Marvel\u2019s first Muslim character to star in her own title. Adding to the good the comic has done, this series \u2013 and the team selected to bring it to the screen \u2013 is a big step forward in the inclusion, visibility, and positive representation of Muslim and South Asian people in entertainment.
