\nTyra Banks, the former host of \u201cAmerica\u2019s Next Top Model\u201d and \u201cAmerica\u2019s Got Talent,\u201d has a new TV gig lined up. Tuesday night, ABC announced that Banks will be the new host, as well as an executive producer, of \u201cDancing With the Stars,\u201d the long-running competition series that\u2019s set to return for Season 29.
\nThe news about Banks came not long after Tom Bergeron, who had hosted \u201cDancing With the Stars\u201d for 15 years, broke the news on Twitter that he was being let go. As Bergeron wrote on Monday, \u201cJust informed @DancingABC will be continuing without me. It\u2019s been an incredible 15 year run and the most unexpected gift of my career. I\u2019m grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships made. That said, now what am I supposed to do with all of these glitter masks?\u201d
\nErin Andrews, who competed on \u201cDancing With the Stars\u201d in 2010 and has co-hosted with Bergeron since 2014, also got the heave-ho.
\nAs CNN and others reported, ABC and BBC Productions, the companies that produce the series, said in a statement that they were taking the show in \u201ca new creative direction.\u201d The statement went on to say, as CNN noted, \u201cTom Bergeron will forever be part of the Dancing with the Stars family. As we embark on a new creative direction, he departs the show with our sincerest thanks and gratitude for his trademark wit and charm that helped make this show a success.\u201d
\nLast year, Bergeron expressed disappointment over the casting of former White House press secretary Sean Spicer in Season 28 of \u201cDancing With the Stars.\u201d Bergeron wrote on Twitter that he had previously told producers that he hoped \u201cDancing With the Stars\u201d would be returning from a yearlong hiatus offering a \u201cjoyful respite from our exhausting political climate and free of divisive bookings from ANY party affiliations.\u201d\n<\/div>\n
